Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Change the patterns behind how you feel
What CBT is
-
How the three parts connect
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is built on the link between what you think, how you feel and what you do. Change one and the other two tend to move with it. It is practical and usually focused on specific problems.
-
Why thinking habits hold on
Much of the work is noticing the habits that keep a mood in place: assuming the worst, reading minds, treating one bad outcome as proof of a pattern. Once you can see the habit, you can test it against the evidence.
-
How we use CBT here
CBT asks you to try things, track what actually happens and let the results teach you. Research supports it for anxiety, depression and stress. Where it fits what you are dealing with, we use ERP, a specialized form of CBT, for OCD and anxiety.
What CBT can help with
- Anxiety, worry and panic
- Depression and low mood
- Obsessive thoughts and compulsions
- Stress and burnout
- Avoidance and sleep habits
- Harsh self-talk
How we work
What to expect in a CBT session

-
An agenda you set together
Each hour starts with what you want from it. You will take a specific situation from your week, pull apart what you thought, felt and did, and look for the point where something could have gone differently.
-
Tools you try and keep
Your therapist may teach you a tool for it: a thought record, a short experiment, a plan for the thing you have been putting off. There is often something to practice before the next session.
-
Where the change happens
The work happens in your week as much as in the room, and the skills stay useful long after therapy ends. Sessions are available in person in West Valley City or online anywhere in Utah.
