After observing your experience, the next step is to describe it — putting words to what you’re noticing.

This means naming what’s happening, both inside and around you, WITHOUT adding judgment or interpretation. It’s not “I’m freaking out” — it’s “My heart is racing, and I feel tightness in my chest.” It’s not “This sucks” — it’s “I’m noticing a feeling of frustration.”

☁️ Why it matters:
Describing helps you slow things down and step out of emotional autopilot. It creates space between what you feel and how you respond — which is where change actually happens.

🧘‍♀️ Try this:
Pause right now and describe your experience like you’re narrating it to someone else, neutrally.
→ “I’m sitting in a chair.”
→ “My shoulders feel tense.”
→ “There’s a thought that says I should be doing more.”
No stories. No judgment. Just the facts.

🗣️ Naming your experience helps you relate to it — instead of being overwhelmed by it.

Outside of my work as a therapist I love surrounding myself with people and trying new things. I am passionate about things that my friends and family love and seeing the joy it provides them.

I love binge-watching TV, playing intense games, working out in the gym, and finding fun places to eat. I have an itch to travel the world and hope to be able to continue to see the beauty this world has to offer.

The first mindfulness skill in DBT is Observe — it’s all about just noticing. No analyzing, no labeling, no changing. Just watching.

When you observe, you become the witness to your experience. You notice a thought arise, a feeling shift, a tension in your body — and you let it be there, without trying to do anything about it. It’s the first step in building awareness.

☁️ Why it matters:
Sometimes we’re so caught up in our reactions that we miss what’s actually happening. Observation helps us pause and connect with the present moment, even when things are messy or intense.

🧘‍♀️ Try this:
Take 60 seconds right now. Notice what you see, hear, feel, or sense — without naming it or judging it. Let it move through you like clouds passing in the sky or water flowing in a river.

🌀 You don’t have to figure everything out right now. You can start by just noticing.

I believe in therapy. On my journey to improve my mental health, I have found various things that have really helped me, many of them through therapy. I value myself and the boundaries I need to maintain my happiness. I have recognized that things that seem hard to say to others are often the things I need to say to protect myself from being hurt. I have made sure to surround myself with people who love and support me.

There isn’t growth in the comfort zone; that’s why I always strive to be vulnerable because I know it will benefit me in the long run. Working on my physical health has also helped me maintain positive mental health. I have seen that as I am mindful of the foods I eat and the movement I provide my body, I am able to show myself self-love. Above all else, I have learned that if I can love and accept myself, I will always be able to keep learning and growing to be my best self.

With all that being said, I also have to have fun in life, or all this work for betterment is for nothing. This life is meant for joy, and I believe we all deserve that!

Growth is painful. It’s hard to move away from the comfort of where we’ve been. It’s often a matter of which pain we choose, the pain of staying the same or the pain that comes with growth.

Here is me in the waiting room, pretending l’m cool with being on the internet. I ask people to step into discomfort every day-seems fair to do the same.

I love the work I do. I am so amazed by and grateful for the people I work with 🌻

Neither the rational mind nor the emotional mind is better — they both serve important functions. It’s only when we rely solely on one or the other that we tend to get into trouble.
Wise Mind is a concept from DBT — where logic meets emotion, and clarity lives. It’s that calm inner voice that knows what’s true, even when life feels loud. We all have the ability to connect to Wise Mind; we just might need support or practice.

Almost to the weekend! A perfect time to get outside (if you want). Research says it helps your mood, sleep, and even your focus. Plus, your dog will thank you. 🌿
