Approaches & Methods
Junpier Healing offers a variety of approaches to personalize treatment.
ART
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a type of psychotherapy designed to help people process and resolve traumatic memories or emotional distress quickly. It uses a combination of techniques, including eye movements (similar to those used in EMDR) and guided imagery, to help individuals reframe negative emotions tied to their experiences. The goal is to help clients feel better in a relatively short period of time by helping them “rewrite” the emotional impact of distressing memories, making them less disturbing or intense.
ACT
ACT stands for Acceptance and Committment Therapy. ACT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals accept their thoughts and feelings rather than trying to control or avoid them. It combines mindfulness techniques with behavior change strategies to help clients live in alignment with their values. The goal is not to eliminate distressing thoughts or emotions, but to increase psychological flexibility, allowing individuals to act in ways that reflect their true values, even in the presence of discomfort.
CBT
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When appropriate CBT will be utilized to reconsider initial thought process, emotions, and patterns to identify and connect to more helpful and healthier patterns.
ERP (Exposure Response Prevention), a form of CBT, may be used when appropriate for OCD and anxiety. ERP is a type of exposure therapy that aims to help individuals change the relationship to fear and anxiety instead of reinforce unhelpful patterns.
EFT
EFT (Emotion-focused therapy) and its related modalities emphasize the role of emotions in psychological functioning and aim to help individuals better understand, regulate, and express their feelings in a healthy and adaptive way. There are several emotion-focused approaches in therapy, but they all share the belief that emotions are key to human experience and are central to the healing process.
EMDR
EMDR is an well-researched model of psychotherapeutic treatment. Sometimes “experiences encode in our system as trauma, affecting our self-concept, perceptions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. EMDR works by stimulating the brain and body in ways that lead it to process unhealed or unprocessed memories allowing an adaptive resolution and decreased emotional charge. EMDR helps people address and work through unhelpful memories, sensations, and emotions and resume normal, adaptive, and healthy processing.”
Short version: EMDR works to get the stuck unstuck, helping clients leave the past in the past by unblocking the stuck parts and allowing information to be stored in a more adaptive way.
DBT
DBT emphasizes mindfulness and provides skills to improve emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to help clients manage inner and outer worlds more harmoniously and achieve a greater overall sense of well-being.
Note: parts of DBT will be used in sessions; groups and full DBT programs are not offered at Juniper Healing.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on the stories we tell about ourselves and how those stories shape our lives. It believes that we are not defined by our problems, but by the meaning we give to them. In this approach, the therapist helps people separate themselves from their challenges, encouraging them to rewrite their personal narrative in a way that highlights their strengths, values, and hopes. By doing this, people can reframe negative experiences and create new, empowering stories that lead to positive change. It’s like looking at life as a story where you can be the author of your own chapters.
Yoga
Yoga supports mind-body connection, increasing awareness and improving overall wellness. In therapy, yoga combines traditional yoga practices with therapeutic techniques to support physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It uses physical postures, breathwork, and meditation to help individuals reduce stress, improve body awareness, and cultivate mindfulness. Yoga therapy can be particularly effective for managing chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and trauma, promoting holistic healing through the integration of body and mind.
