Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get the most out of therapy?
Be an active participant in the therapy process; therapy is collaborative and often requires work outside of sessions.
Make an effort to attend scheduled sessions and be on time.
Recognize that therapy is a process; it can take some time to experience change depending on your goals and symptoms.
Bring any concerns or questions to your therapist and try to be honest. If you are not feeling comfortable in therapy please bring it up with your therapist, we want to create an environment where you feel safe to address concerns.
How do I find the therapist that’s right for me?
The therapeutic relationship is important for successful therapy and it’s important to find the right fit. It is normal to have some nervousness with therapy, particularly in the beginning stages. Ask yourself how your therapist makes you feel. If you are uncomfortable with the therapist we will provide you with referrals to therapists who might be a better fit.
Is everything I say confidential?
Everything discussed in therapy is confidential with a few exceptions where your therapist is legally obligated to break confidentiality including situations where there is a concern of safety to yourself or others.
How long does therapy last?
The end of therapy is often referred to as “termination.” It is recommended that termination occurs when initial therapy goals have been met; it can be helpful to discuss this with your therapist if this or your treatment plan seems unclear.
You are also welcome to discontinue therapy at any time for any reason.
Will I need medications?
It’s up to you. Juniper Healing does not offer medication management. Many people use and benefit from medications. If interested, you will need to see a prescribing doctor (such as psychiatrist, primary care provider, or psychiatric nurse practitioner). It is important to keep your therapist aware of any medications prescribed and medication changes.
